What Lies Beneath

The first in a series of five oil paintings titled "What Lies Beneath" based on exposed tree roots found along the banks of the Goulburn River near Shepparton in northern Victoria. These images are signposts to what is happening in the Australian environment. Exposed tree roots are nothing new in our ancient river systems, but their frequency points to the speed of change in the natural world. This one looks rather beautiful, but it could easily become a beautiful nightmare.
