Palm Cockatoo
Palm Cockatoo
Printed A3 (297mm x 420mm) on Canson® Infinity Rag Photographique 310gsm
Although it is extremely rare, the Palm Cockatoo is Australia’s largest cockatoo and easy to spot in the leafy forests of Cape York Peninsula. I took this image adjacent to the jetty at Seisia, where the birds came in to eat each day.
The Palm Cockatoo is the only bird in the world that uses a tool musically. It breaks off a branch and peels back the bark, whittles it down to about 30 centimetres and then holds it in its foot and taps on the edge of its nest hollow.
