Life on a Wire
Life on a Wire
This Grevillea lavandulacea (Lavender Grevillea) is found naturally from South Australia through to Western Victoria. I love the way this explosion of colour dangles from the small spiky leaves. In this case the flower rests on the wire used to protect the plantings and reminds us of how hard it can be for our native wildflowers to coexist with development.
It is slowly disappearing from areas it was once common. Low pollination and disturbance to fire regimes probably have something to do with it, add in over grazing and this plant is likely to be threatened in the near future.
